St.Barnabas Hurling Taster Sessions
admin, Saturday 17 December 2011 - 19:20:49 //
St. Barnabas G.A.C will be considering the submission of a Hurling team into the Warwickshire County League and Championship in 2012. We will be holding Hurling taster sessions in the coming year to gauge the level of interest. Currently there is no Hurling team between Greater Manchester and Birmingham and this is a void we want to fill. Our first taster session will be on Sat 8th January at Holy Trinity Primary School, Nottingham. We would like to extend this invitation to players or non players, at all skill levels.
If you would like to attend, register your interest, or obtain more information, please contact Barry Gaffney on 07729597834 or email hurling@nottinghamgaa.co.uk.

JFK Cup Final St.Barnabas 4-08 J.Mitchels 1-05 Sunday 4th December 2011
admin, Wednesday 07 December 2011 - 16:41:22 //
St.Barnabas finished their season in style last Sunday when their reserve team added another trophy to the club's 2011 haul. After racing into an early two point lead, Barnabas responded when Sean Donohoe latched on to a loose ball to fire home. Further points from Paul Hegarty (2) and Ruairi McMenamin edged Barnabas further ahead before young Ciaran Kinsella swooped to fire another goal before the break. Mitchels responded themselves with a goal just before half time and clawed their way back into it with two further points early in the second half. However the young Barnabas team weathered the storm through points from Padraig Gaughan and Kinsella which gave them some respite. As conditions continued to worsen the Nottingham side added some gloss to the finish with superb late goals from Michael Cattermole and Ciaran Kinsella.

AGM Notes
admin, Wednesday 07 December 2011 - 16:40:48 //
St Barnabas GAC Nottingham held their annual convention in the Irish Centre in Nottingham on Thursday 1st December.
With one of the largest crowds in attendance for years the business of 2011 was discussed openly. In what was quite a productive and successful year for everyone associated with the club members were upbeat about next year and were anxious to look to the future with the optimism and ambition that has been a feature of the club since its' inception. In his Chairman's Address, Chris O Hara spoke of the 'immense success both on a off the pitch' with the introduction of a Reserve men's team and a ladies team for the 2011 season.
Focusing on the success of 2011 he paid particular attention to the on field successes of the Senior men's team who won the Warwickshire Senior Championship for the first time since 1989. The seniors had more success when they also lifted the Warwickshire League trophy and the Fr Forde cup, Chris Highlighted 'this was one of the highlights of the year as we had 5 players on that particular team who had never played Gaelic football before until this year'. Chris paid tribute to the ladies squad and management on their first competitive year in Warwickshire football where they won the 9 a side provincial shield, came second in the league and also getting narrowly beaten in championship and provincial semi final's.
The men's reserve team can also be proud of what they achieved in their first year of competitive football where they got beat in the championship semi final by the eventual winners and on Sunday past they won the JFK cup. Chris went on to thank Stevie Doc and Brendan Friel on their continued work with the clubs under 12 team, he continued 'The kids were getting the correct training and games as well, the parents were enjoying the days out and what he has created is a proper example of how an underage structure at any club should be run and handled. Massive credit to Brendan & Steve, this is grass roots GAA at its best and this is the future of our club.
Off the pitch a number of noteworthy events took place. The race night, casino night the 2 golf classics, county colours night and finally the dinner dance were all great night's entertainment, hopefully the success of this year will be built upon in 2012. To those who organized these events a massive thank you and we know that 2012 will provide even more highlights.
The outgoing Chairman then paid tribute 'to the committee members and officers of St Barnabas GAC, who contribute their time and effort selflessly to assist with the running of our club. To various individuals and the committee as a whole, to say thanks for the time and effort that was afforded to our club for the year that was 2011. There is no need to mention names because people are proud to be involved and being a member of our club.
